MD Surveys is an Irish energy consultancy covering Leinster, Cork and Waterford. Its SEAI-registered assessors carry out domestic and commercial BER assessments, provisional BERs for new builds and planning, home energy audits and air tightness testing. Their clients range from homeowners and self-builders to builders, developers, architects, engineers and property managers.
They don't stop at the rating. Every assessment comes with practical advice on cutting running costs and improving the result. For air tightness testing they use calibrated blower door equipment, with thermal imaging and smoke testing to find exactly where heat is escaping. The business ran across six separate spreadsheets and apps, including Google Maps for planning routes, Sage for invoicing and Outlook calendars for staff jobs.
Scheduling was the hardest part. Every route had to work for the surveys and for each assessor's availability at the same time, and then each job had to be added to staff Outlook calendars and several trackers by hand. That added up to hours of admin every week, time that could have gone to customers.
